    Strength and Weakness

    Blue Coat School 26/3/2003

    1 Corinthians 1.17-25

God's strength looks like weakness at first glance...

[Read 'The Friday' by Martin Wroe from When You Haven't Got a Prayer...]

    ...including the lines:
... for a man of faith, who wanted others to put theiur faith in him,
you sometimes seemed plagued with self-doubt.
Perhaps you became an atheist for a little while.
      Can God become an atheist?
(Is a god with an identity crisis an agnostic,
a god who ceases to believe in himself,
      and atheist?)

...but the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

What Jesus did on The Friday illustrates the weakness of God: the weakness of God which, somehow, strangely, is stronger than our strength.

    Prayer

Reflect on what we see as strong....

Allow ourselves to see the possibility of a different sort of strength,
made perfect in a kind of weakness,
demonstrated to us by God in Jesus on The Friday....
